Smart Home #3: Roslindale, MA

Welcome to Smart Homes! Here, we interview Reservoir customers on life before and after a Reservoir.

We sat down with a Roslindale, MA homeowner and landlord who installed a Reservoir after learning about the state incentives offered.

What led you to get a Reservoir? Were there specific features you looked for?

I’m very interested in taking action to mitigate the climate catastrophe. I've been wanting to replace our gas-powered appliances as time and budget allows. I hadn’t actually planned to replace my water heater this year, but when I learned about Reservoir and the incentives available for Boston, it was such a good deal financially that I moved forward earlier than planned.

In doing research on Reservoir, it seemed to me that it was a very robust product. There had clearly been a lot of thought and work put into it. I liked the features such as the recirculation pump. I also liked how it had built-in sensors for potential leaks since I've had water heaters bust before and it was a catastrophe.

How was your install experience?

I had already done an electricity panel upgrade, so I knew there was capacity to install a Reservoir. The crew who came out to service my home did really well and were smart, caring people.

How has your experience been using Reservoir so far? Have you seen a reduction in your water and energy bills?

I love the Reservoir app on my phone and being able to see the output temperature at any time, as well as the Warm My Shower feature.

What does climate resilience mean to you?

Using energy as wisely as possible, reducing waste, and eventually being able to supply the needs of my house with renewable power. We recently installed a solar array that will make the cost of operating Reservoir comparable to or cheaper than a gas water heater. Climate resilience to me is about both economic and environment sustainability.
