Customer Case Study #1: Belmont, MA

Welcome to Customer Case Studies! Here, we interview Reservoir homeowners on life before and after a Reservoir.
We sat down with a customer based in Belmont, MA. Since we installed a Reservoir in their basement a few months ago, this family of four has been enjoying plenty of hot water.
What led your family to get a Reservoir? Were there specific features you looked for?
In an effort to do our household's part in reducing our carbon footprint, we have looked for ways to reduce our energy usage and make what energy we do use be electricity since it is the only form of energy that can be sustainably produced. Choosing a Reservoir as our water heater fit well with these goals. With its heat pump and smart features such as learning our usage patterns to minimize the energy needed, it is a great asset towards achieving our home sustainability goals.
How was your install experience?
The installation experience was top notch. The technicians did a great job installing the unit itself and spent time explaining its features and how to get the most out of it. I couldn't have asked for more.

How has your experience been using Reservoir so far? Have you seen a reduction in your water and energy bills?
It's a real feat to get people excited about a water heater, but Reservoir has done that in our house. We love the "heat my shower" feature both for its water saving effect and convenience. It always struck me as absurd to have installed a low-flow shower head but, before even turning it on, pour a bunch of water down the drain waiting for the hot water to flow through it. Reservoir's "heat my shower" feature solves this brilliantly. Our house guests have been astonished at getting instant hot water as soon as they turn the shower on!
The other feature we love is "party mode." On sunny days where our solar panels are producing excess energy, we have turned on this mode to use the Reservoir as a sort of battery to store the excess solar energy as heat in our water. This saves us money since our utility has time-of-use rates and, by doing this, we are able to limit using energy to heat out water during peak hours.
What does climate resilience mean to you?
Anticipating the effects that climate change will bring to our planet, we all need to do everything we can to reduce our resource usage. The Reservoir is contributing to this effort by reducing energy and water usage all while providing an enjoyable experience.
